Superfast broadband

Lancé au printemps 2013, le Plan France Très Haut débit vise à couvrir l’intégralité du territoire en très haut débit d’ici 2022.

Launched in spring 2013, the French superfast broadband plan aims to provide superfast broadband coverage across the whole country between now and 2022. In order to achieve this objective, the plan is prioritising the rolling out of shared fibre optic networks and is mobilising investment of  €20 billion over ten years, shared between the state, regional authorities and private operators.

Zones which are not being subsidised by the state, and where public initiative networks are emerging, require increased involvement on the part of local authorities and recourse to appropriate legal tools (concessions, leases, etc.) in order to ensure optimal coverage of the region and compliance with public service stipulations.

These subsidised networks carry a significant risk for local authorities and call for technologies which are subject to competition from other forms of telecommunications. In spite of these challenges, the development of fibre optics is essential to unlocking the regions and enabling everyone, businesses and citizens alike, to participate in economic globalisation.
