Fare Studies for the Bus and BRT Network of Agadir
Context
In the first quarter of 2025, Agadir's first BRT line will enter service. This initial line will bring significant changes to the transport service of the agglomeration: increased level and quality of service, expected rise in ridership, but also higher investment and operating costs, reconfiguration and modernization of the conventional network in terms of routes and frequencies, rolling stock, and ticketing equipment.
At the heart of these changes, the issue of fare structure is crucial: in the past, fare increases have faced strong resistance from the population, with negative elasticities in the initial years, and subsequent planned increases in the contract were not implemented. There is a wide variety of fares depending on the lines, sometimes unrelated to their distance, making it difficult to understand or establish a coherent overall logic.
Objective
To propose a new fare structure for Agadir's bus and BRT network that achieves economic balance for the service.
Our contribution
- Recharacterize the current fare situation and the challenges related to the projected fare changes
- Develop fare scenarios and conduct surveys with users and stakeholders of the mobility service to measure their various impacts
- Based on the collected data, define with Agadir Mobilités the scenario to be submitted for validation by the authorities
