Ulaanbaatar’s population was about 0.6 million in 1989 and grew to about 1.6 million in 2021 and will reach about 1.9 million by 2035.
This growth of population goes hand in hand with a demand for the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar (MUB) to further invest in quality infrastructure and other assets to strengthen the city’s competitiveness and resilience and to achieve the development goal of a comfortable, environmentally friendly, people-centered, and smart city, as planned in Vision 2050.
Such investments require capital that often far exceeds available resources. Sound infrastructure governance over the life cycle of projects is a key factor to ensure long-term cost-effectiveness, accountability, transparency, and integrity of infrastructure investment.
This knowledge and support technical assistance (KSTA) aims to strengthen the governance and institutional capacity of the MUB to enable effective investment in quality infrastructure and other assets that are green, sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
