Technical assistance to the BIDV (Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam) as part of the SUNREF Programme, which includes Renewable asset portfolio identification and engagement options and conditions

Context

With the overall aim of contributing to the objectives set by Vietnam in its NDC and to the commitments made in the framework of the Paris Agreement, AFD is working to set up a green credit line at the BIDV (Bank for Investment and Development in Vietnam) to provide capital and encourage investors to invest in renewable energy projects to improve the country's energy mix.

Objective

This technical assistance aims to carry out a preliminary evaluation of BIDV's portfolio of pre-identified renewable energy projects to recommend projects to be included in the SUNREF credit line financed by AFD and to support the BIDV in improving its E&S management system and sector skills through the design and implementation of a training program.

Our contribution

  • Economic and financial evaluation of the portfolio of pre-identified investment projects, and recommendation for inclusion in the SUNREF credit line
  • Training needs assessment of BIVD related to the renewable energy sector and E&S management;
  • Elaboration of detailed a training program on energy-related topics (renewable energy and energy efficiency projects characteristics, risks analysis, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects financial and economic appraisal and business models, etc)
  • Preparation of training materials and delivery of the trainings on energy-related topics (one full intensive week of training), and one training session on project financing in the water and sanitation sector
