Solid Waste Management and Pre-feasibility Study for the Improvement of Solid Waste Management System in Eastern Suriname

News published on : Jun 13, 2024

The French Development Agency (AFD) has commissioned Espelia to conduct a feasibility study aimed at improving the waste treatment system in eastern Suriname, along the Maroni River at the border between Suriname and Guyana.

The first phase involves diagnosing the current waste system in Suriname (identifying gaps and potential areas for improvement, identifying stakeholders), and the second phase takes the form of a workshop with stakeholders to formulate and evaluate targeted and financially sustainable waste management solutions.

Espelia consultants have conducted on-site visits to conduct field visits (including illegal dumpsites) and institutions involved in the waste sector. They continue this study by focusing on developing enhanced solutions for waste collection, organization, and financing of the waste management system.
