The Kigali Urban Fabric Initiative in Rwanda is operated by Rwanda Women Network, Bantu, and Espelia. This initiative, part of an AFD scheme, supports innovative and participative urban micro-projects, serving as real laboratories for citizen initiatives. It is integrated into a broader program run by the City of Kigali aimed at enhancing informal neighborhoods by creating and rehabilitating socio-cultural facilities.
During the first field mission, the consortium conducted an initial assessment through a participatory diagnosis of existing facilities, including water points, sports grounds, markets, and public spaces. Espelia is providing crucial support in defining management methods for future facilities, building the capacity of the institutions involved—especially the City of Kigali—and monitoring and evaluating the project.
