Technical Assistance for the Redevelopment of Food Infrastructure in Tanzania: The TASUFIP Program in Action

The TASUFIP program aims to redevelop key food infrastructures in the cities of Mwanza and Tanga, including four wholesale and retail markets, three fish landing sites, and one abattoir, while implementing a sustainable management program for these sites.

Since the beginning of 2024, Espelia's international team has been providing technical assistance to three municipalities (Mwanza City Council, Ilemela Municipal Council, and Tanga City Council) and the Tanzanian Ministry of Local Government and Regional Administration (PO-RALG), focusing on stakeholder engagement and capacity building activities.

In February, a first field mission mapped stakeholders to support a diagnostic and stakeholder engagement plan. The second mission in May enabled the international team to present redevelopment proposals for the 8 sites to stakeholders, gathering feedback to enhance plans and ensure local compliance. This mission also included workshops to understand institutional stakeholders' capacity building needs. Based on these insights, capacity development plans will be developed for each municipality and the ministry. Concurrently, Espelia is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the preparatory phase of the program to various stakeholders including the EU, European partners, AFD, government, and local authorities.
